Parliament goes into session

FROM JATIYA SANGSAD: The third session of the 10th parliament began at 5:00pm Monday.

Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury is presiding over the session where Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Opposition Leader Raushan Ershad are present.

At the outset, the House accepted the condolence motion to 17 noted citizens and former lawmakers, including Baby Maudood.

Nine bills are expected to be tabled in the parliament during the session.

The bill includes High-Tech Park Authority (amendment) Bill, DNA bill and three separate bills on Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachhari Hill District Councils (amendment), Investment Corporation of Bangladesh Bank Bill-2014.

President M Abdul Hamid on August 11 convened the session. The President summoned the session to comply with the constitutional obligation of not stretching the gap between two sessions beyond 60 days.

However, the session would likely to be of short duration if any urgent issue appears.

The last session ended on July 3.
