BNP’s to form human chain

DHAKA: The leaders and activists of BNP-led 20-party are gathering in front of the BNP’s Naya Paltan office to form human chain on occasion of International Day of Enforced Disappearances.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) authorities have deployed additional law enforcers in Naya Paltan, Arambagh, Fakirapool and Bijoynagar areas to thwart any untoward situation.

The human chain will be formed from the Nightingale intersection of Naya Paltan to Notre Dame College of Arambagh in city at 11:00am.

Education Affairs Secretary of BNP Khairul Kabir Khokon told banglanews that the 20-party alliance organized the program to mark the mark International Day of the Disappeared.

Officer-in-Charge of Paltan Thana Golam Morshed told banglanews that they have deployed a large number of law enforcers to thwart any untoward situation.

The International Day of the Disappeared on August 30 is a day created to draw attention to the fate of individuals imprisoned at places and under poor conditions unknown to their relatives and/or legal representatives.

The impulse for the day came from the Latin American Federation of Associations for Relatives of Detained-Disappeared (Federación Latinoamericana de Asociaciones de Familiares de Detenidos-Desaparecidos, or FEDEFAM), a non-governmental organization founded in 1981 in Costa Rica as an association of local and regional groups actively working against secret imprisonment, forced disappearances and abduction in a number of Latin-American countries.
