DHAKA: BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the true remarks of AK Khandaker, deputy chief of Liberation War Commander, have created anger among Awami League leaders.

He made the comment in a Milad Mahfil to mark fifth death anniversary of former minister, also BNP Standing Committee member Saifur Rahman at BNP central office on Friday.

Mirza Fakhrul said that AK Khandaker’s remark is true. And people of the country believe it. The book stated the true history and through it, lies of the Awami League have come out. That's why they now are urging the authorities to ban the book and try him terming a traitor.

The senior BNP leader added, “We, who heard the historic March-7 speech, know that Bangabandhu had ended his speech, saying ‘Joy Bangla, Joy Pakistan’. Reality of that period it was correct. Through saying it, the image of any person did not be tarnished actually.”

As the Awami League did not join direct battle in liberation war, its leaders flew to Kolkata, so they do not want to accept the truth of history, he added.

Earlier on September 4, ruling party  lawmakers, in the parliament,  came down hard on AK Khandaker for distorting the history of the 1971 Liberation War in his recently-published book ‘1971: Bhitare  Bahire’

AL lawmaker Abul Kalam Azad termed the ‘distortion’ of the history in the book a part of the conspiracies of the anti-liberation forces, saying that Sheikh Mujib had concluded his March 7 speech with the slogan ‘Joy Pakistan’.
