MK Anwar’s charge hearing deferred

DHAKA: A Dhaka court here on Monday deferred till October 20 the charge framing hearing against BNP standing Committee Member MK Anwar in a case under Information Technology and Communication Act.

Sources told banglanews that the court of Senior Special Judge of Dhaka Justice M Zahurul Haq passed the order in response to a time plea filed by the BNP leader.

Earlier on May 28, Anwar got the bail in the case of distorting information in the incident of Hefajat-e-Islam’s rally near the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque on May 5 following earlier bail of August 22, 2013 from Dhaka CMM court.

The BNP leader was accused in connection with expressing opinion about Hefajat’s movement on May 6, 2013.

He said hundreds of copies of the Holy Quran were set ablaze by some ruling party men led by Dhaka South Swechhasebak League leader Debasish Biswas and activists of Chhatra league in front of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque during the mayhem caused by Hefajat-e Islam on May 5.

Later, M Nasir Uddin, a sub-inspector of Paltan Police Station, filed a general diary against the BNP lawmaker for his remarks on the day.

Later, police filed a case with Information Technology and Communication Act in this regard.
