DHAKA: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami demanded to release its Nayeb-e-Amir war crimes convict Delawar Hossain Sayedee.

The Acting Nayeb-e-Amir of the party Moqbul Ahmed made the disclosure through a press release on Tuesday.

The matter of twist is that the party did not call for a hartal in the day of verdict of the Jamaat leader.

The press release said that Delawar Hossain Sayedee should be freed immediately.

Maqbul Ahmed said that Delawar Hossain Sayedee is an expert of holy Quran and the government has detained him for so long unfairly.

He also said that Sayedee has explained the holy Quran in home and abroad for last 50-year.

He also claimed that Sayedee is politically victimized by government. The allegations against him are fake and fabled, Maqbul added.

He also sought wish from the Muslim people of the world for the Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee.

Moreover, The Supreme Court will deliver its verdict on Wednesday on the appeal filed by death row Jamaat-e-Islami leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee against his penalty for the 1971 wartime offences.

On February 28 last year, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 awarded death penalty in two charges although the eight charges were proved against him.

On March 28, Sayedee filed an appeal with the apex court seeking acquittal from the charges and the government side on the same day submitted a separate appeal to the SC demanding capital punishment in all the eight charges.
