Jamaat clash hurts 15 in Pabna

PABNA: At least 15 Jamaat-Shibir activists were injured in a clash between Jammat-Shibir men and Juba League and Chhatra League activists on Indira Road in the district on Wednesday.

Witnesses said the Jamaat-Shibir activists brought out a procession in the area protesting the Supreme Court’s verdict on war crimes convict and also Jamaat leader Delawar Hossain Sayedee.

The Juba League and Chhatra League activists hurled brickbats aiming the Shibir activists.

At one stage, both of the groups locked into a clash in the area around 2:00pm.

On information, police rushed to the place and opened fire, leaving 15 Jamaat-Shibir men injured.

Jamaat district unit acting secretary Rezaul Karim claimed that the Juba League and Chhatra League activists attacked on their peaceful procession.

On the other hand, Pabna Sadar Awami League organizing secretary Sheikh Rasel Ali Masud said “our party men protested the Jamaat-Shibir activists while they tried to create violence in the area”.

However, confirming the matter to banglanews Pabna Sadar Circle Assistant Police Superintendent Rokonuzzaman Mia said that the situation is now under the control of the law enforcers.
