SATKHIRA: Police detained some 18 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its students’ wing Islami Chhattra Shibir from different places of the district early Thursday.

Of the detainees, eight were held from Kalaroa upazila, five at Sadar, and two each at Shyamnagar and Kaliganj upazilas and one at Tala upazila.

The detainees include Shyamnagar upazila Jamaat secretary Abdul Gafur, Shyamnagar upazila Shibir secretary Muzahid Hossain, Kaliganj Upazila Jamaat member Abdul Jabbar.

During hartal, no untoward incident was reported till 8:30am across the district. Police was deployed at the strategic points and intersections there.

Confirming the matter, district police information officer Sub-Inspector Kamal Hossain said police are on maximum alert to tackle any sabotage during hartal.
