Fakhrul gets bail in arson case

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Thursday granted bail to BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in a case of torching and obstructing police to perform their duty in the city.

Additional chief metropolitan magistrate Alamgir Kabir passed the order after the BNP leader surrendered before the court and sought bail.

On December 9, 2012, BNP men set fire to tyres on the roads in the city’s Potagola area under Kadamtali Thana, attacked lawmen and torched a vehicle of police.

Following the incident, police filed a case with the thana and submitted charge-sheet naming 61 people, including Fakrhrul.

Fakrhrul was made accused as an instigator.
