Bomb blasts at JP procession hurt 25

RANGPUR: At least 25 people, including journalist, sustained injuries in multiple bomb explosions at a procession of Jatiya Party at Shapla Chhatar of the metropolitan city on Saturday noon.

Earlier on Friday night, the district administration imposed the section 144 in Rangpur Public Library ground and its adjacent area on Friday night as two rival factions of Jatiya Party convened programs at same venue and time.

Violating the section 144, the agitated leaders and activists of Jatiya Party also vandalized several shops in the area in this connection.

Leaders of newly-formed district and metropolitan committees blamed supporters of State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Moshiur Rahman Ranga for the attack. 

Member Secretary of the committee Asif Shariar said that supporters of Moshiur Rahman Ranga attacked on their protest procession, hurled bombs and opened fire around 12:00pm, leaving 25 people, including journalist, injured.

Both the groups locked into a clash that lasted around 15 minutes.

District deputy commissioner Farid Ahmed told banglanews that the ban will remain effective from 6:00am to 6:00pm on Saturday.

Farid said that two factions of Jatiya Party led-by State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Moshiur Rahman Ranga and Jatiya Party chairman Hussein Muhammad Ershad’s nephew Asif Shariar convened separate rallies at the same place at 11:00am on Saturday.     

To avoid unwanted situation, Section 144 has been imposed at 11:30pm on Friday, he added.

Confirming the matter to banglanews Officer-in-Charge of Sadar Thana Abdul Quader Zilani said that the situation is under the control of the law enforcers and we are in alert position to avert any untoward situation.
