MAGURA: Police detained 24 leaders and activists of BNP and its major ally Jamaat-e-Islami from the district in between Saturday night and Sunday morning.

The detainees include Sreepur upazila vice chairmen, also upazila Jamaat unit general secretary Moulana M Mizanur Rahman.

District Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Shudarshon Ray told banglanews, police held Miszanur from his house on suspicion as he may lead to carry out destructive activities during hartal hours.

Detained BNP men include Hazrapur union parisahd BNP unit secretary Goamal Mostafa and Bagia union parishad BNP secretary Mohammad Ali.

All detainees will be produced before the court upon fishing interrogation at the thana.
