DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Sunday deferred till October 27 the deposition of Lufuzzaman Babar, the former state minister for home, in a tax evasion case.

Dhaka Special Judge Court-5 Justice M Rezaul Islam passed the order in response to defendant’s plea for more time as accused and witnesses did not able to come in the court due to hartal.

Deputy Tax Commissioner Syed Jakir Hossain of the National Board of Revenue filed the tax evasion case on February 14, 2010 with the Dhaka's Senior Judges Court.

According to case statement, Babar evaded Tk 2.65 crore in tax between 1999-2000 and 2008-2009 as director of Master Electronics Limited.

The hearing has already been deferred for 47 times till Sunday.
