Stray incidents mark 20-party hartal

DHAKA: BNP-led 20-party alliance observed daylong hartal across the country amid stray incidents on Monday.

The alliance enforced the nationwide strike from 6:00am to 6:00pm protesting restoration of the Parliament’s authority to impeach judges of the Supreme Court.

In support of hartal, Jamaat-Shibir activists brought out separate processions in Jatrabari, Demra and Mohakhali areas of the capital in the morning. But none was arrested from the possession.

Though, police detained three Chhatra Dal activists from the hartal procession at Shahbagh and Dhaka University Arts Faculty area.

Jatiyatabadi Mahila Dal brought out a possession from Khilgaon Taltala City Corporation super marker area.

Dhaka city BNP brought out a procession supporting hartal in the Bailey Road area, led by member secretary Sohel-un-Nabi.

However, the law enforcers were on high alert to avert any untoward situation.

Public transports were seen plying in a little amount around the city.

While observing the areas in Khilgaon, Jatrabari, Motijheel, Bijoynagar, Kakrail, Nayapaltan, Fakirapool, Shahbagh, Farmgate, Bijoy Swarani, Pragati Swarani, Mohakhali, Banani, Rampura, Sadarghat and Gulistan, the people’ life scenarios were apparently seemed relaxed inside the capital.

Though, the shops were opened as the day progressed.

Some 10-platoon police members were deployed in the central office of BNP in city’s Nayapaltan-Fakirapul-Kakrail-Bijoynagar area.

BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called the hartal after a meeting in BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’a political office in Gulshan on Saturday (September 20).

It is first hartal program of the alliance after January 5 general election.

Along with the capital city, law enforcement agencies’ members were deployed at the strategic points of the divisional cities and district towns.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel also were deployed in the city.

Earlier, the final phase of 48-hour hartal, called by Jamaat-e-Islami, ended across the country at 6:00am Monday.
