JESSORE: Police, in separate drives, detained 36 activists of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami from separate areas including the town on Monday.

Assistant Superintendent of police Reshma Sharmin of Jessore district said law enforcers detained the people from early Monday to 10:30am for their alleged involvement in subversive activities.

However, there is no impact of hartal called by the BNP-led 20-party alliance from 6:00am protesting restoration of the Parliament’s authority to impeach judges.

The light vehicles are seen plying in the district; though long distance buses did not leave the terminal.

Though, the hartal supporters gathered in the intersections but no incident of picketing was reported.
