Juba League leader murdered after abduction

MUNSIGANJ: Police recovered dead body of a Juba League (JL) leader in Louhajanj of the district on Friday morning a day after his abduction by a gang of people.

The deceased was identified as M Rafiqul Islam, 40, cultural secretary of Louhajanj upazila unit JL, son of Raqibul Islam of Kaziragla village of the upazila. Rafiqul owned a cloth shop at Islampur of Dhaka.

Family sources said a gang of 3 to 4 people picked up Rafiqul by a white colored microbus on his way to the shop from his home on Thursday morning and left for Mawa area of the district. Since then, he went missing.

Later, villagers found him dead and informed police. On information, police recovered body from a paddy field of the village around 9:30am and sent it to the district general hospital for autopsy.
 
Police sources said he might have been killed over establishing dominance in the area.

The abductors tortured Rafiqul to death, police recovered the victim’s shoes and several masks from a nearby rice factory, said Nazrul Islam, younger bother of the victim.

Confirming the matter to banglanews, Louhajanj Thana on-duty officer Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mizan said that Jhirul Islam, victim’s elder brother, filed a murder case in this connection.

Police was trying to arrest the killers, the ASI added.
