AL infighting injures 20 in Munshiganj

MUNSHIGANJ: At least 20 people were injured, including five bullet-hit, in a clash between two groups of ruling Awami League in Hatlokkhiganj area of the district on Wednesday noon.

The clash took place establishing supremacy in the area and extortion from sand-carrying dredgers on the bank of Dhaleshwari river in the district.

A bullet-hit victim Mohammad Shahbuddin was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Two other victims--Sifat and Sadek Hossain--were admitted at Munshiganj General Hospital while the others were taking medical treatment from different private clinics.

However, this incident mounted tension among the leaders and activists of Juba League in Hatlokkhiganj and Nayagaon areas.

Additional police forces were deployed to avert any untoward situation.

A local source said earlier on Monday night six persons were injured as two groups locked into clashes over extortion from sand-carrying dredgers.
