JP factional clashes hurt 40 in Rangpur

RANGPUR: At least 40 activists of Jatiya Party (JP) have been injured in clashes between two groups of district unit of the party in Rangpur Stadium area on Friday.

Sources told banglanews that the clashes started in the morning centering welcoming Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad.

The party activists were locked into the clashes when both of rural development and cooperatives state minister Moshiur Rahman Ranga and Rangpur city committee conveyer Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa’s supporters tried to hold program at district stadium welcoming the party chairman, sources added.

Later, according to the sources, they were again locked in the clashes when Mostafa’s supporters protested Ranga’s men from entering Ershad’s house.

The clashes left a total of 40 Jatiya Party men injured. They are now undergoing treatment at different clinics and hospitals.

Confirming the matter, Rangpur Sadar Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Abdul Qauder Jilani said that police, however, took the situation under control later.

On the other hand, Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad is now at the city circuit house.

He arrived in Rangpur to meet with the new district committee member.
