DHAKA: The physical condition of former Jamaat-e-Islami chief Ghulam Azam, who is serving 90-year imprisonment for war crimes, remained unchanged till Saturday noon.

He was been shifted to the coronary care unit (CCU) of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) in city on Friday for his Kidney and breathing complexity.

Sources told banglanews that he was taken to the CCU from BSMMU Prison Cell in the morning after his physical condition deteriorated.

But, later, doctor informed that he is now out of danger, sources added.

Jail Superintendent of Dhaka Central Jail Farman Ali confirmed the matter to banglanews.

A medical board was formed under the supervision of Head of Medicine Department of BSMMU Professor Dr ABM Abdullah to check the physical condition of the war crimes convict.

Ghulam Azam, who was also the chief (Ameer) of the then East Pakistan Jamaat-e-Islami during the Liberation War in 1971, was the chief of Bangladesh Jamaat between 1991 and 2000.

International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1 sentenced him to 90 years in prison on July 15 last year for his involvement in crimes against humanity, genocide and other wartime offences in 1971.
