DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) expressed shock at the demise of BRAC University Professor Dr Piash Karim.

In a condolence message, BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that the country lost a luminous teacher who was always active against the wickedness and injustice.

The leaders prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

Joint-secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed visited Square Hospital early Monday to see body of Piash Karim and said Dr Piash was vocal in favor of freedom of speech and democracy.

Earlier, BRAC University Professor Dr Piash Karim passed away at a city hospital on Monday morning.

He breathed his last at Square Hospital in capital around 5:30am.
