DB to investigate case against Tarique

DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Sunday asked Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Branch (DB) to look into anti-state campaign case against Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.

The court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Noor passed the order at noon and asked to submit the report within October 30 before the court.

Earlier in the morning, Bangabandhu Founding President Advocate Abdul Malek alias Mashiur Malek filed the law suit against Tarique Rahman with Dhaka CMM Court on Sunday morning on charge of staging campaigns against state.

On October 14, Mashiur Malek sent a legal notice to Home Secretary and Inspector General of Police as a representative of the government.

The notice asked them to file a sedition case against Tarique Rahman within three days of receiving the notice and brought him under trial by arresting him with the help of Interpol.

Otherwise, legal steps would be taken in this regard, the notice added.

The notice said Tarique Rahman intentionally claimed Ziaur Rahman as the ‘first president’ of Bangladesh at London on September 29.

Besides, the defaming Bangabandhu by terming him as ‘Pakbandhu’ is equal to distorting history of liberation of the country, it added.

The notice sender himself filed the lawsuit as the government did not take any attempt within three days of the legal notice.
