DHAKA: The post-deprived leaders and activists withdrew their further demonstration program for Sunday on assurance of BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
Earlier in the day, Fakhrul had a closed door meeting with the post-deprived leaders around 5:15pm at Nayapaltan central office of BNP.
The deprived leaders demanded a fresh committee in a democratic way by demolishing the newly formed committee of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD).
The angry leaders also termed the new committee “incompetent” and a “pocket committee” of BNP student affairs secretary Shahiduddin Chowdhury Annie and assistant student secretary Sultan Salahuddin Tuku.
Mirza Fakhrul Islam listened to them and assured them that he would talk to the BNP chief Khaleda Zia about the matter.
However, the post deprived leaders dissolved their demonstration program for the day immediately after the meeting.
Earlier, leaders and activists of JCD, student wing of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), locked into sporadic clashes in front of party’s Nayapaltan central office.
The clashes began among the followers of leaders who got post and who were deprived of post in the newly formed JCD committee.
Several cocktails were blasted and six people were injured in the clashes.
