BNP NEC meeting ends with pledges to bolster party, movement against ÔÇÿmisruleÔÇÖ

DHAKA: The National Executive Committee of the main opposition BNP ended their daylong deliberations Saturday with a promise to strengthen the party by resolving inner-conflicts alongside gearing up their movement against “misrule”.

The meeting started at 10:45am with Khaleda Zia in the chair and continued till 10 pm at the auditorium of the Institute of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh, in the city.

A total of 60 leaders of the party delivered their speeches, vowing to work together to strengthen the party unity by mitigating conflicts apart from taking position against what they said misrule of the ruling party.

BNP chairperson and opposition leader Khaleda Zia at the beginning of the meeting said the ruling government has only itself to blame for the current anti-government movement that she alleged was fuelled by its repressive measures.

BNP’s Executive Committee meeting was last held in September 2005 under the supervision of Tarique Rahman, the then senior Joint Secretary-General of the party.

On January 1 this year, BNP announced names of 386 members of a new executive committee after holding the December 8 national council that made Khaleda Zia chairperson again and her elder son Tarique Rahman senior vice-chairman of the party.
