Pabna AL infighting hurts 25

PABNA: At least 25 people were injured in a factional clash between two groups of Bangladesh Awami League (AL) in Paikpara and Dephalchara villages of Chatmohar upazila of the district on Wednesday.

Chatmohar Thana Officer-in-charge (OC) Subrata Kumar Sarkar said to banglanews that there was a previous enmity between AL leader Shah Alam and Al supporter Afsar Mondal over ‘khas’ lands.

In a bid to resolve the dispute, sub-inspector (SI) Gazi Nurul Islam and also in-charge of Handial police investigation centre called the two groups.

But on the way, they logged into a quarrel near Paikpara Buropir Mazar Madrasha ground in the area around 12:00pm.

Later, it turned into a clash with lethal weapons, leaving at least 25 people injured.

The AL men also vandalized a police motorcycle during the clash.

However, the law enforcers fired five rounds of blank shots to take the situation under control.
