DHAKA: BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed that Latif Siddique is not being arrested as he is being backed by the incumbent government.
He said Latif is wanted in 22 cases, but the police let him go from the airport in support of the government.
The senior BNP leader came up with the allegation after a meeting with Swedish Minister for International Development Cooperation Isabella Lövin at residence of Swedish ambassador to Dhaka Johan Frisell in Gulshan in the morning.
Fakhrul said they discussed, in the meeting, about the country’s political situation, democracy, press freedom and human rights.
BNP chairperson’s advisors Riaz Rahman, Enam Ahmed Chowdhury and Sabih Uddin Ahmed were present at the meeting.
