CHITTAGONG: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Monday called day-long hartal in the port city for Tuesday in protest of the arrest of district (North) convener and vice president of district (South) with other leaders and activists.
Chittagong Metropolitan Unit, Jubo Dal and North and South units of BNP declared the shutdown jointly.
Metropolitan BNP president Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury’s private secretary Mohammad Salim told banglanews that Metropolitan, North and South units of district BNP along with district Jubo Dal announced the shutdown protesting police action on the party men.
Following a clash between BNP, Jamaat and cops at Kazir Deuri area and Nur Ahmad Road of the city, Police arrested at least 300 local BNP leaders and activists including district’s North Unit convener Aslam Chowdhury and South Unit vice president Enamul Haque on Monday.
