DHAKA: At least 137 people, mostly leaders and activists of BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami, have been detained in nightlong drives in six districts.
They were detained from Khulna, Satkhira, Magura, Manikganj, Chittagong and Noakhali in the drives conducted from Wednesday evening to Thursday morning.

Police detained 45 people, including 16 BNP-Jamaat leaders and activists, from Satkhira and 40 others, including eight Jamaat-men, from Khulna.
Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) additional police commissioner (Special Branch) Moniruzzaman and Satkhira district police information officer Sub-Inspector Kamal separately confirmed the matters to banglanews.
Moreover, police nabbed 19 BNP-Jamaat men from Chittagong, 12 BNP men from Manikganj, 11 BNP-Jamaat activists from Magura and 10 Jamaat men from Noakhali.
Senior police officers of the respective districts confirmed the detention to banglanews.
