NOAKHALI: District unit of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, on Friday called a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the district for Saturday.

The shutdown was called protesting the arrest of district Sadar unit Chhatra Shibir president Gias Kamal Saju and secretary Mahbube Elahi and other activists and demanding their immediate release.

District (North) Shibir president Mohammad Mayaz and South unit president Ziaul Haque Zia jointly called the hartal in the district.

Earlier in the day, police held five Shibir men including its district Sadar president and secretary from a housing estate area of Maijdee.
