JHENAIDAH: The district unit of Chhatra Dal, student wing of BNP, called a 24-hour-long hartal from Sunday morning in the district protesting the arrest of its convener Ariful Islam Anan.

The announcement came in a media statement signed by district Chhatra Dal joint convener Abul Bashar Banshi on Friday noon.

According to the statement, police detained the Chhatra Dal leader Anan without any charge against him. Later, he was shown arrest in a previous case and sent to jail, it added.

However, they called the hartal demanding his immediate and unconditional release.

The statement adds: People of the district have been urged to observe the 24-hour hartal starting from 6:00am Sunday.
