‘Hartal, blockade to continue’

DHAKA: BNP joint-secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed on Monday categorically said countrywide indefinite blockade and hartal will continue till the ‘mass’ demands are met.

The top demand is holding of a general election under non-party caretaker government.

The BNP leader made the announcement through a news release.

Salahuddin Ahmed said the executive now dominates all branches of the government. One man show is being reflected in all the three branches - the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary.

“The last specks of fundamental rights are diminishing now as the government has made the jurisprudence as a machinery to choke the oppositions’ voices,” it added.

Salahuddin Ahmed, in the statement, also alleged that the parliament is not the center to enact and amending laws, rather a place for abasing the Zia family.

He also condemned Premier Sheikh Hasina saying that she will be held responsible for the consequences of state terrorism, extra-judicial killings, kidnaps, filing of false cases against BNP leaders and activists and their detention.
