DHAKA: The National Committee on review of politically motivated cases recommended the withdrawal of 411 more cases filed during the tenures of the past BNP-Jamaat alliance and caretaker governments.

State Minister for Law Advocate Kamrul Islam chaired the committee`s 19th meeting in the conference room of the Home Ministry. State Minister for Home Affairs Advocate Shamsul Haque Tuku was also present at the meeting.

After the meeting, Qamrul Islam told reporters that the committee decided to recommend withdrawal of the cases identifying those as `politically motivated`.

He also said,  “A total of 761 cases were placed in the meeting. Of those, the committee did not recommend for 90 cases and left 209 for the next meeting.”

No political cases filed against the opposition leaders were placed for a review in the meeting, however, as of past occasions.

With this, the committee has so far recommended the withdrawal of 5,539 cases dubbing those as `Politically motivated`, out of a big load of 8,666 cases.
