DHAKA: Demanding for a neutral polls-time government, BNP secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said the ruling Awami League truly does not want BNP to participate in the upcoming general election.
“We want to participate but it must be an actual election after dissolution of parliament and release of Khaleda Zia,” he added.
The senior BNP leader made the remarks at a meeting organized by Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) and Dhaka union of Journalists (DUJ) at the national press club on Thursday noon (June 21).
Fakhrul said as a democratic party BNP is all in for election but current government does not want us there and prefers the one or two other minor political parties as opposition.
Referring to the ruling party men, he said, “You are electioneering using helicopter while suppressing the opposition party men to speak a word- that can not be happened. There should a level playing field and neutral government to hold a fair election. The parliament must be dissolved and Khaleda have to be released from jail.”
Fakhrul also urged his party leaders and activists not to be frustrated and bring the fight with commoners against the government. “The people of this country will fight back as they did before in history. It won’t happen automatically but we have to keep fighting for what we want. We must go to common people as there is no alternative.”
