DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said his party has decided to participate in upcoming Barisal, Rajshahi and Sylhet city corporation elections as part of its movement against the ruling party.
The senior BNP leader made the remarks at a post-GCC polls press conference in party chairperson Khaleda Zia’s political office on Wednesday morning (June 27).
Fakhrul said the government has proved again that it does not believe in democracy. It destroyed the electoral system by shamelessly looting votes in the local government election to stay in power. It used the new technique of election rigging in Gazipur polls as it used in Khulna polls.
“People can not exercise their right to vote as the ruling Awami League is repeatedly altering the election results in its favor by using the law enforcing agencies, administration and the Election Commission,” he said.
When asked about BNP’s decision on the upcoming 3 city polls, Fakhrul said BNP will participate in the polls as part of the movement.
