DHAKA: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia filed an appeal with the Election Commission seeking her candidacy back to contest the 11th national elections.
Earlier, Returning Officers rejected her nomination papers of three constituencies on December 2.
Three constituencies were Bogura-6, 7 and Feni-1.
Barrister Kaisar Kamal, Barrister Nowshad Jamin and Advocate Masud Ahmed Talukder submitted the appeal before EC on behalf Khaleda on Wednesday (December 5).
Returning Officers rejected 786 nomination papers while declaring 2,279 candidates qualified across the country out of total 3,065, submitted by aspirants in 300 constituencies to contest the 11th national elections.
The candidates whose nomination papers were rejected are required to appeal against the returning officers’ decisions from December 3-5.
Hearing on those appeals will be held on December 6, 7 and 8.
The last date for the withdrawal of candidature is December 9
11th national elections are stated for December 30.
Khaleda Zia has been serving her five years’ sentence in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case since February 8, 2018.
