DHAKA: The Election Commission on Thursday (December 6) cleared candidacy of 80 aspirants to compete for the 11th general election as their nomination papers had earlier been rejected by returning officers.
Of 156 petitions, the EC has cleared candidacy of 80 aspirants, including Golam Maula Roni from Patuakhali-3, Morshed Miltan from Bogura-7, Abu Ashfaque from Dhaka-1, Md Tamijuddin from Dhaka-20 and Faridul Kabir Talukder Shamim from Jamalpur-4.
SM Asaduzzaman, join secretary of the commission, disclosed this after concluding first day’s appeal hearing at its Agargaon office.
On the 2nd day (December 7), appeal number from 161 to 310 will be heard while appeal number from 311 to 543 on the 3rd day (December 8).
Returning officers rejected 786 nomination papers while declaring 2,279 candidates qualified across the country out of total 3,065, submitted by aspirants in 300 constituencies.
The 11th national elections are stated for December 30.
