DHAKA: The Election Commission on Friday (December 7) validated nominations of 21 candidates, including of Jatiya Party aspirant film actor Masud Parvez (Sohel Rana), to vie for the 11th general election.

Till filing of the report, the EC heard 40 appeals filed challenging the rejection of their nomination papers by the returning officers during scrutiny. 

Of those, it cleared 21 aspirants to compete for the election while rejected 17 and kept two pending.

Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda and commissioners Mahbub Talukder, Md Rafiqul Islam and Kabita Khanom started hearing appeals for the second consecutive day at its Agargaon office in the morning.

On the 2nd day (December 7), appeal number from 161 to 310 will be heard while appeal number from 311 to 543 on the 3rd day (December 8).

The EC on Thursday (December 6) cleared candidacy of 80 aspirants to compete for the 11th general election on the petitions filed against the decision for the returning officers over the rejection.

Returning officers rejected 786 nomination papers while declaring 2,279 candidates qualified across the country out of total 3,065, submitted by aspirants in 300 constituencies.

The 11th national elections are stated for December 30.
