DHAKA: Electoral campaigns for 11th parliamentary elections are slated to begin Monday (Dec10) as Election Commission (EC) has ended symbol allocation to the political parties.

“The candidates can run electoral campaign after receiving the symbols,” EC Joint Secretary Farhad Ahammad Khan told banglanews.     

The campaigns must end by 12am 29 Dec, 32 hours before the start of voting.

Therefore, the aspirants are getting 19 days for running electioneering.  

The EC has issued a set of directives regarding the campaigns. Several of them are as follows: 

• The candidates cannot use digital display and color posters.

• Mikes can be used from 2pm to 8pm each day.

• Not more than three loudspeakers allowed simultaneously in the same polling area.  

• Motorcades, bike and torch processions and illumination are prohibited.

• Using any living animals to symbolize polling symbol is prohibited. 

• Writing on walls and attaching posters are banned. A poster should be of 60x45cm. 

• Using any educational institute or religious prayer center not allowed.

• No candidate can deliver demeaning or inciting remarks to other contestants.  

• Important persons should leave government facilities while participating in the events. Only the Prime Minister will get protocol for security, under special law.

• The MPs and City corporation mayors won’t get government facilities while running campaigns.

• None other than the party chief can use helicopter for communication. 

However, As many as 2,500 candidates are contesting the national polls this time. Last date of withdrawing candidacy was Dec 9.

The 11th national elections is slated to be held on Dec 30.
