DHAKA: The High Court has fixed Tuesday (December 11) to deliver its order on writ petitions filed by Khaleda Zia challenging cancellation of her nominations by the Election Commission (EC) for contesting the upcoming general election.
After hearing the petitions, the HC bench of Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and Justice Md. Iqbal Kabir on Monday (Dec 10) fixed the date.
Senior lawyer AK Mohammad Ali moved for Khaleda Zia while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam for state.
On December 9, the lawyers of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia filed three separate writ petitions to the department concerned of the HC.
The election commission, on December 8, upheld returning officers' decisions canceling the candidature of jailed BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
On December 2, the returning officers have rejected al three nomination forms submitted for contesting the polls from Feni-1, Bogura-6 and Bogura-7 seats for her conviction in two graft cases.
The 11th national elections are slated for December 30.
Khaleda Zia has been serving in jail since February 8 this year after a Dhaka court convicted and sentenced her to five years’ imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
