2,500 BNP men arrested after polls schedule: Rizvi

DHAKA: BNP Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that as many as 2,415 leaders and activists of his party were arrested since announcement of the elections schedule on Nov 8.

As many as 158 cases were filed in this period, he claimed.

Besides, 15 cases were filed and 425 partymen arrested since the electoral symbol allocation on Dec 10. 

Rizvi came up with the allegations at a press briefing at BNP central party office in Nayapaltan on Thursday (Dec 13).

He cited the incidents of alleged attacks on BNP Joint Secretary General Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon in Noakhali on Wednesday (Dec 12) during an election campaign. 

He also mentioned similar reported attacks on the campaigns of BNP candidates Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury in Chittagong, Mosharraf Hossain in Chandpur, Mannan Talukder in Sirajganj, Shariful Islam in Kishoreganj and Rafiqul Islam in Netrokona.
