DHAKA: Opposition alliance Jatiya Oikyafront top leader Dr Kamal Hossain regretted Friday’s incident that happened with journalists at Martyred Intellectuals' Memorial in Mirpur.
On Saturday (Dec 15), he sent a statement to media in this regard.
“After paying tribute to the martyrs, I was saying at the memorial that we lost many brilliant sons to get independence. All of a sudden, I was asked about Jatiya Oikyafront’s stance concerning Jamaat,” he narrated.
Dr Kamal said he was again asked the same question and he politely replied that he wasn’t ready to make any comment regarding this as it was an occasion of paying tributes.
“But, at third time, I was hearing ‘Jamaat, Jamaat’ two to three times consecutively, from somewhere of the crowd. Then I felt very bad. I was trying to halt the questioner for this,” he stated.
“If my remark had hurt or embarrass anyone, anyhow; then I’m really sorry,” he said.
However, the Oikyafront leader angrily reacted to a journalist on the spot on Martyred Intellectuals’ Day on Friday and asked him to ‘shut up’.
The incident drew criticism and many even started to question his behavior ‘threatening’.
