DHAKA: The ruling Awami League warned its rebel candidates for the 11th parliamentary elections to withdraw their candidacy within next two days.
“Otherwise, tougher action will be taken against them, from core section of the party,” said Party Joint General Secretary Jahangir Kabir Nanak.
He came up with the ultimatum at a press briefing at Awami League President’s political office in Dhanmondi Saturday (Dec 15).
“Awami League or Moha Jote has no rebel candidate. There are some independent candidates. The number won’t be one and a half dozens; is less than it,” he said.
“We would like to inform them, who are still sustaining as independent candidates against Awami League and Moha Jote, have to stand aside. (They) have to announce withdrawal of candidacy by arranging press conference,”
“We hope they will stand aside by this time and will play effective role on behalf of the party and Moha Jote candidates. Otherwise, stern organizational action will be taken,” he added.
They may even be expelled from Awami League for lifetime, the party announced earlier.
Awami League Joint General Secretary Abdur Rahman, Organizing Secretaries Ahmad Hossain, AFM Bahauddin Nasim, Information and Research Affairs Secretary Afzal Hossain, among others, were present there.
