Mass arrest underway in 300 constituencies: Rizvi Ruhul Kabir Rizvi at the press conference

DHAKA:  BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that the country was experiencing a ‘mass arrest’ in 300 constituencies while ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ representing candidates were coming under attacks of law enforcement agencies and Awami League terrorists.

The senior BNP leader came up with the allegation at a pres briefing from party’s Nayapaltan central office on Saturday (December 15).

Rizvi said, “Law enforcement agencies and Awami League terrorists attacked around 150 sheaf of paddy representing candidates countrywide ahead of the upcoming general elections. Two candidates were held in custody.”

“Complicating the legal process, possibility of candidacy of a large number of candidates including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was made uncertain, Rizvi also said.

Attack was launched on Gano Forum president Dr Kamal Hossain, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and other significant leaders, not to mention supporters and activists in 300 constituencies of national parliament, Rizvi alleged.

Attacks were carried out in front of police, Rizvi also alleged.

Poster campaign, Rizvi further alleged, was halted and posters were torn down later. Microphones were snatched away, broken down in around all electioneering campaigns.
