DHAKA: BNP Vice Chairman Selima Rahman said the Election Commission (EC) is playing roles like a puppet and its directions aren’t being obeyed by the police-administration.
Selima Rahman was talking to the reporters after leading a team of representatives at a meeting with EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed at Nirbachan Bhaban Sunday (Dec 16).
“In Dhaka, no BNP candidate could have launched electioneering yet. Police is acting like our rival. They aren’t allowing us to stay in the field. The government is intending to hold a 2014-like one-sided elections again,” she said.
“Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda, meanwhile, has said there is level-playing field for election. How the level-playing field exists whereas attacks are being carried out on our leaders, activists and candidates. What’s the definition of level-playing field,” she questioned.
She said the team filed written complaints after meeting with the EC Secretary on Sunday.
Demand of immediate army deployment has been placed, instead of Dec 24 as police isn’t obeying the commission and the EC is acting like a puppet, she said.
Otherwise, BNP will forge resistance, Selima Rahman mentioned further.
Advisers to the BNP chairperson Bijan Kanti Sarker and Ataur Rahman Dhali, among others, accompanied her.
