SHARIATPUR: BNP alleged that leaders and activists of Awami League attacked on an election rally of its Shariatpur-3 (Gosairhat-Damudya-Bhedarganj) candidate in Gosairhat upazila of the district.

The incident happened in front of Muktijoddha Bhaban of Gosairhat upazila around 11 am on Monday (December 24).

Nuruddin Apu, Sheaf of paddy (electoral symbol of BNP) candidate along with 29 leaders and activists of BNP, Chatra Dal, and Jubo Dal were injured, BNP and local sources claimed.

The injured Nuruddin Apu was ferried to United Hospital in Dhaka via helicopter after the attack.

The other injured were hospitalized locally.

The clash took place in a head-on march between BNP and Awami League. On information, police went to the spot and tamed the situation, said Selim Reza, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Gosairhat Police Station.

However, no one has filed any complaint yet. Legal action will be taken after filing of the complaint, OC said.
