Over 10,000 held after polls schedule: Rizvi

DHAKA: Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary of BNP, claimed that law enforcers arrested over 10,000 of its activists since the announcement of polls schedule on November 8.

“Nine BNP activists have been killed in polls violence so far. At least 13,252 activists of Jatiya Oikyafront suffered injuries in 2,896 incidents of attacks. Its leaders and activists were sued in 844 fake cases since then,” Rizvi said at a press conference at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office on Friday (Dec 28).

One of BNP activists was killed and 1,127 leaders-activists were arrested and 38 fake cases were field throughout the country on Thursday (Dec 27), the BNP leader claimed. 

Rizvi also condemned the attacks on candidates of Sheaf of Paddy, leaders and activists of BNP and demanded unconditional release of party men who detained after announcement of polls schedule. 

Mentioning that Prime Minister said “Sensing defeat in the December 30 elections, BNP could carry out subversive activities to foil the polls”, Rizvi questioned her, “Who were behind the attacks on Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon and Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie?
