DHAKA: India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday (Dec 31) greeted Sheikh Hasina after leading Awami League to a landslide victory in the 11th parliamentary elections, held on Sunday (Dec 30).
Modi called up Hasina to greet her soon after making it clear that the Awami League President was on her way to the occupy the Prime Minister’s Office for third consecutive terms, Ehsanul Karim, PM’s press secretary, told Banglanews.
BJP General Secretary Ram Madhab also phoned Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader to congratulate him for AL’s landslide victory.
The candidates of ruling Awami League-led grand alliance have won 288 seats in the 11th national election. On the other hand, BNP and its partners and others won 10 seats altogether.
Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed unofficially announced the results around 4 am on Monday (December 31).
