Oikyafront MPs-elect yet to take oath

DHAKA: Jatiya Oikyafront MPs elected in the 11th parliamentary polls did not take the oath as Members of Parliament.

All the newly elected lawmakers took oaths of office around 11:00am on Thursday (Jan 3). But none of Oikyofront MPs-elect was seen at the parliament.

Only seven out of 298 candidates contested from the Oikyafront have won. Of them, five are BNP leaders, while two other candidates from Gonofourm, one of the key allies in Oikyofront.

The Oikyafront has already rejected the election results, alleging widespread irregularities including ballot stuffing and they demanded fresh election under nonpartisan administration.

In the 11th Parliamentary elections, the ruling Awami League-led Grand Alliance secured a landslide victory with 288 seats.

Five BNP MPs-elect are Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir (Bagura-6), Mosharraf Hossain (Bogura-4) Jahidur Rahman (Thakurgaon-3), Aminul Islam (Chanpainawabganj-2), Harunur Rashid (Chanpainawabganj-3) while two Gonoforum MPs-elect are Sultan Mohammad Mansur (Moulvibazar-2) and Mokbbir Khan (Sylhet-2).
