JP to be main opposition in next parliament

DHAKA: Jatiya Party will become the main opposition in the 11th Parliament of Bangladesh, says it’s chairman HM Ershad.

None of JP MPs will join in the cabinet of the new government, Ershad added in a press release issued on Friday (Jan 4). 

According to party hierarchy, HM Ershad will play role as leader of the opposition and party’s co-chairman GM Quader to be deputy leader of the opposition in the next Jatiya Sangsad.

Ershad also requested the Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad to take necessary measures in this regard.

Jatiya Party, a key ally of the Grand Alliance, won 22 seats while the alliance won 288 seats with Awami League’s 257.

The election was held at 299 constituencies out of 300 on Dec 30
