DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad has taken oath as an elected lawmaker to the 11th Jatiya Sangsad.
Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury read him the belated oath, at the Oath Room of the parliament, after 12pm Sunday (Jan 6).
Swearing in of the JP President delayed due to his illness whereas all the MP elects of the 11th national elections were sworn in on Jan 3.
HM Ershad was seated on wheelchair while entering the Speaker’s office on Sunday.
Earlier, in a letter sent to the Speaker, he said he is willing to act as the leader of opposition at the parliament.
JP leaders including Co-Chairman GM Quader, Secretary General Moshiur Rahman Ranga, Presidium members Kazi Firoz Rashid, Fakhrul Imam and Syed Babla accompanied their party chief at the oath-taking ceremony.
Jatiya Sangsad Senior Secretary Dr Zafar Ahmed Khan directed the oath-taking.
As of Sunday, 22 JP lawmakers are sworn in to the 11th Jatiya Sangsad.
