DHAKA:  Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War on Tuesday (Jan 8) a day after formation of her government for the third consecutive term.

Sheikh Hasina, the prime minister for the fourth time, placed a wreath at the altar of the National Memorial at Savar.

Later, the premier, flanked by her new cabinet colleagues, paid homage to martyrs, placing another wreath at the altar of the National Memorial a day after they took oath of office.

After that, she stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of deep respect to the memories of the martyrs who made supreme sacrifice for the independence of Bangladesh.

A smartly turned out contingent drawn from the three services gave a state salute, while bugle played the last post on the occasion.

Later, the premier signed the visitors’ book kept on the National Memorial premises.

Earlier in the day, New cabinet, led by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, paid tribute to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in front of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum in city’s Dhanmondi area.
