GAIBANDHA: Opposition alliance Jatiya Oikyafront’s candidate BNP leader Prof Dr Moinul Hasan Sadik has withdrawn his candidacy for the 11th national elections from Gaibandha-3 constituency (Sadullapur-Palashbari).
On Thursday (Jan 10), he submitted the withdrawal plea with the Returning Officer (RO), upon a decision taken by BNP.
Earlier, in a press briefing attended by his party leaders and activists, Sadik said BNP will not contest for the constituency as a protest against the Dec 30 national elections marred by ‘vote rigging’.
Voting in the Gaibandha-3 constituency is slated for Jan 27.
Jan 10 was the last date for candidacy withdrawal.
Voting in the constituency was postponed following the death of Oikyafront’s earlier nominated candidate Dr TIM Fazle Rabbi Chowdhury on Dec 20.
The Election Commission (EC) then rescheduled voting in the constituency.
However, Awami League’s Dr Yunus Ali Sarker and Jatiya Party’s Barrister Dilara Khandaker Shilpi are among the eight candidates to compete for the constituency.
