DHAKA: EC Secretary Helal Uddin said the fifth upazila parishad elections across the country will begin from the first week of March in phases.
“Voting to upazila parishad elections will be held in phases from the first week of March. The schedule for reserved women seats in the parliament will be announced in next week.” the EC Secretary made the announcement while talking to reporters at the Nirbachan Bhaban on Thursday (Jan 10).
The elections for in over 487 upazilas were held in six phases between February and May in 2014.
Regarding the elections of reserved women seats in the 11th Parliament, the EC Secretary said “As per seats obtained in the December 30 national elections, Awami League will get 43 reserved seats while Jatiya Party four seats, Oikyafront 1 seat and another for independent and others.
Asked steps about enrolment of Bangladeshi expatriates as voters, EC Secretary Helal Uddin said, “In April this year, the work to enrole expatriate Bangladeshis as voters will be started. In this case, Bangladeshi people who live in Singapore will be voters in first phase. For this, a team will go to Singapore within next 5-7 days. Then the process will begin for Dubai expatriates”.
